RIO DAS OSTRAS (RJ/BRASIL) – Young leaders from Conceição de Macabu and Rio das Ostras participated, on November 15th, in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), in the environmental action event held at Sítio das Bromélias, in Cantagalo, Rio das Ostras, planting adult seedlings of native species of the Atlantic Forest.
The meeting, which was attended by the Governor of District 4750, Miguel Mendonça Pinheiro, was held with a focus on preserving the environment, bringing the important theme for the formation of Rotary’s youth leadership. RYLA is one of the leading Rotary club training programs, a global network of more than 1.2 million community leaders, neighbors, friends, and problem solvers, serving more than 35,000 Clubs, make positive and lasting changes in the communities where they work professionally.
Organized by Rotary clubs and Rotary districts around the world, RYLA develops leadership skills in 14- to 30-year-olds, through communication learning, problem solving, turning motivation into action, and making friendships.
For the President of the Rotary Club of Rio das Ostras, Uilson Alves da Silva, the moment served to reward the youth and integrate members of two different municipalities, for the sustainability of the planet. “The International Rotary Club has a special focus on environmental preservation and we are bringing our young leaders to absorb and practice this idea, making them a difference in their community,” he said.
The action of Rotary, brought together young people from Rio das Ostras and Conceição de Macabu municipalities, and was held in partnership with the Grupo Intelecto´s Neutralize Project, which is part of the Verdesfera, a Shared and Social Environmental Responsibility Program of the consulting company.
“These species need to be planted with the certainty that they will grow and live forever in this place. We have developed this technology and, therefore, certify and georeferentiate each tree planted so that it can be followed from any place on the planet. We provide that each young person adopts this tree and has this moment engraved in their heart”, revealed Sebastião Gomes, director of the Grupo Intelecto, after lecturing to the new leaders.

France, Ariane Lima Manhães, Thaís Dias Lacerda, Silas de Souza Batista, Felipe Ramon Mellegari Farcha, Anna Beatriz Pegas de Oliveira Seabra, Lia Oliveira de Souza Hamer Kettermann, Giselle Bessa Ventura, Anna Cecília de Oliveira Machado, Sérgio Costa da Silva Júnior, Maiely da Costa, Evelyn Santos, Iohanna Nascimento Silva, Victória Gonçalves, Michel Torres and Tiago Schwarz de Souza.
NEUTRALIZE PROJECT – The project was developed so that every citizen can carry out a real action to neutralize the emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere caused by the uncontrolled consumption of natural resources, causing global warming. The adherence to the project also includes a thematic T-shirt to promote the action, as well as an exclusive channel of knowledge about the importance and benefits of the forest for the planet and for humanity. During the pleasant meeting also participated the Assistant of Governor of Rotary Club of Conceição de Macabu, Lenilza Oliveira and Dulce, district coordinators Joel and Maria do Socorro, as well as the President of the Rotary Club of Macaé, Victor Almeida.
